When the main event hits the screen (live broadcasting begins at 7pm Pacific Time), most people will find themselves sitting on the edge of their seats.  The title fight will pit reigning light heavyweight champ “Suga” Rashad Evans against challenger Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida.  The winner of the match will have not only dealt the other fighter his very first UFC loss, but will also walk off with the UFC light heavyweight championship title.

29 year old Rashad Evans, a one-time college wrestler with no ranking in any martial arts styles, developed his love for MMA fighting on the streets, where he enjoyed the thrill of the hunt.  Thankfully, his better judgment kicked in and Evans decided that since he could paid to dole out the same punishment on a competitor in the octagon (a much safer environment), he’d turn his passion into a career.  Rashad boasts a UFC record of an astounding 18 wins, with no losses and just 1 draw.

From as early as the tender age of 3, Brazilian Lyoto Machida has had extensive training in Karate & Jiu-Jitsu garnering several championship titles for the two martial arts as he battled his way through competitor after competitor.  30 year old Lyoto began training for MMA at the age of 17 with his eyes on the top spot from the very beginning.  His record almost mirrors that of Suga Rashad’s with 14 wins, no losses and no draws.  Both fighters weigh in at exactly 205 pounds, but Machida at 6’1” gains 3 inches in height over the 5’11” Evans.

With the love of MMA competition that the two headline fighters have, it’s guaranteed that nothing in their respective arsenals will be left on the table.  Rashad Evans, with his speed and takedown ability will be exhibiting the skills that made him the current UFC champ.  On the other side, Lyoto Machida will show the crowd exactly how he earned his Karate fighting titles.  It will be interesting to see how the rankings stand when the smoke clears and UFC 98 goes into the history books.

The biggest area you need to focus on when trying to obtain 6 pack abs is going to be on your diet. Like it or not, the old saying that ‘abs are made in the kitchen’, is probably one of the most truthful statements in the fitness industry. If your diet isn’t in line, your stomach is going to show it.

So, what should you be doing with your diet?

First, ensure you are getting enough protein. Not only is protein going to form the key building blocks you need to build muscle tissue, but it’s also going to provide you with a better feeling of fullness than eating just carbohydrates alone would for example. Protein is more “expensive” than any other macronutrient meaning that your body will burn more calories breaking down protein compared to carbs and fats.

Next, don’t be afraid of dietary fat that comes from primarily monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats such as olive oils, fish oils, a mix of nuts, natural peanut butter and avocado. While it’s true that eating fat will increase your calories fast, as long as you keep it between 20-30% it can be one of the best things to get 6 pack abs fast. The important point here is that dietary fat helps keep your insulin level stable, which, when high enough can actually cause fat gain itself.

Whenever I read around in the forums I hear people say “arm bars are for pussies” I think Faber and other Mixed Martial Arts guys practice it religiously so I guess you forum douches should learn from a 14 year old MMA chick and get off the computer and in a gym.

If you’ve got ground game you know that learning how to submit and use your opponents body against himself is going to give you another weapon when you walk in the cage. I found this cool martial arts site that shows you some of that game.

Ok so here’s the real deal about the 14 year old chick. I looked into it and I guess her Dad is some master and her uncle is up there too. Her uncle has 3 black belts and her dad used to practice with some of the biggest names in the sport and he’s done tourneys all around the world. So I guess it doesn’t hurt being raised on the mat from the ripe ‘ole age of 4 with killer teachers.

I’m not saying this 14 year old girl is the next Gina Carano but if kids keep on practicing and getting their game down who knows what the mixed martial arts world will be like in 5 years. For sure it’s come along way from the Gracie days of the 90’s.
